Cellex-C was developed by Lorraine Meisner a cell biologist who specialized in the study of melanomas and breast cancer. She invented Cellex-C in the kitchen of her home in Wisconsin. To date her highly sought after formulation has sold over one million units worldwide and, according to news reports, is the number one selling skin treatment in Australia. Meisner became interested in skincare in 1986 when she became aware that many older people were applying Retin-A to soften the appearance of wrinkles. She believed that this treatment was inappropriate for older people and began experimenting with the topical application of vitamin C.
Factors such as the sun, stress, smoking and other environmental factors contribute to the breakdown of collagen in the skin and facilitate the development of free radicals. Free radicals in turn contribute to the breakdown of collagen which results in sagging and aging skin. In response, using traditional equipment she invented Cellex-C – which became part of a new range of “cosmaceuticals” and made it available to friends and family with strikingly good results. Very soon news of the success of Cellex-C spread by word of mouth and the product was put through rigorous scientific testing before being released to the general market.
